Re: LENS FOR SALE

I fear that once Lenses are sold that the `rush' to squat on some useful `Lens-names' will begin in earnest. The lens COKEISIT or (you get the idea) could be a worth xxx.00 easily. And, if you think we have UNDEVELOPED AND EMPTY LENSES NOW -- just wait - it hasn't even BEGUN. Indeed, I predict that if lenses are sold that the majority of lenses eventually will be nearly empty -- just a bunch of phrases or known things -- with perhaps a tag or two.

That said, I hope this sale establishes some sort of VALUE on all lenses -- if the norm holds --- lets say that Betty Davis Eyes produced 12.00 this year --- would that mean it's worth say 90-150 dollars? Could be. I will be watching this for the ultimate outcome.

Re: LENS FOR SALE

Hello Rick!

I don't know if there will be any kind of "rush".

For one thing, this is a whole new ballgame. There is an open marketplace in domain names, and while there have been "squatters" who paid to hold on to a URL they thought might become valuable (a presidential candidates name, for example) there are many options available to someone who wants a specific name.

I think what is really being sold here is the work...the service and effort of having found the information, links and photographs, and having organized it in a pleasing manner along with sprinkling in moneymaking modules appropriately, so that the overall lens is interesting, informative and potentially profitable.

Thank you for your comments and interest. Best wishes to you!

Re: LENS FOR SALE

The lens Jeff auctioned is ranked about 1,000, which I think is pretty good. This 11,000-ish ranked lens I don't think is such a deal as I know I can publish a brand-new lens which will rank higher.

I was wondering what sort of reception a top 100 lens auction would have? Say something that's been in the top 100 for more than 3 months and has over $100 in retail sales, lens-life-to-date. And it holds a top spot in it's category so it's still gets prime eyeball real estate.

Now that could be an interesting experiment...

Re: LENS FOR SALE

Marti - Can you tell us all how much money the lens has earned this year? --- Also, you are right about your lens which is developed - you are selling content indeed. That should make it more valuable.
Ralache - It would be VERY interesting to see what a top 100 would sell for - that said - since `sales' can come from the lensmaster (and not the general public) it would be helpful to see the sales info broken out somehow to avoid buying into something not there.

Re: LENS FOR SALE

I have no earnings report on this lens, it's new. I actually thought that would be better, as the new owner would be allowed to build it up as they wished.

Yes, I think an auction on a Top 100 lens would be interesting!

Re: LENS FOR SALE

In NO way is it `better' trying to sell a lens with NO prior earnings. Hmmm. That definitely would lower the value IMHO. One would have to `see a reason' that the interest will be increasing in the future about Bette Davis to even have an interest. That said -- there are still plenty of Bette Davis fans whose hearts still beats.

Re: LENS FOR SALE

Perhaps the new lensrank algorythm will help. This lens has climbed tenfold, from the 11,000's to the 1,000's!

Re: LENS FOR SALE

Does anyone think I'll get an offer on my The David Lens? It been ranking 3 or 4, probably in the top 100 for the forseeable future, and its already getting an income.

I wonder what its worth. Any ideas?

Re: LENS FOR SALE

So, Margaret, I notice that you didn't actually go through with the auction on the lens. Since Jeff seems to have been the only bid, and obviously you didn't accept it, what were you hoping to get for the lens?

Re: LENS FOR SALE

I was just curious. I have been working like a dog on the lenses, and have lost any sense of what they could be worth.

it is of interest to me because rumor has it that the other dealers in amish furniture have ALL noticed what i'm doing and are impressed-my google rankings are a surprise to everyone (including me), an amish dealership that ran its business into the ground and alienated all the amish craftsmen was still able to get 10K for that lousy website. So, I wonder what a squidoo lens with a high google ranking might be worth. I sold quite a few breadboxes off my breadbox lens, and lazy susans off of that lens, and don't have an affiliate penny to show for it, but its still a good and profitable lens.

I also have the corvette lense, and once my brother's corvette gets sold, I'm wondering how much that lense would be worth. I can redevelop it for 'corvettes' in general, but he's the big car buff, not me. Give me an old bug and I'm happy.

Re: LENS FOR SALE

This lens is #181 in Squidoo, has a PR3 and is #13 on Google. Just a little bit more tweaking and it will hit the first page and maybe up to #5 for the keyword 'Betty Davis Eyes'. At $5.25, this was a steal. Just hit the first page at it could be worth in the hundreds of dollars.

Tip: Find more keywords and add them to your title. And watch it skyrocket to the top.

---------------------

Hi Margaret,

Your lens actually sits at #3 and not #4 and thats very impressive, especially beating out 254,000 other sites. Whatever its worth is what ever you do with it so I suggest that you do not change anything but just add on. When you start to remove text, graphics, etc. it will then move down the list but always keep it fresh and updated. Add more keywords to your title such as [Amish Community - Amish Culture - Amish Lifestyle] just an example but its best to find the right keywords first because those are the keywords that people are searching for.

Right now, although you're at #3 for [Amish Community]. You can also hit Google first page for another keyword. Do you see what I'm saying?.

Ok thats it for now. Bye.
