yellow stars for non-giants?`

I just started a new account - just for my calendar lenses. See: http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/calendarsblog

For now it just holds my least popular calendar lenses - the ones I made too late in the season to get any traffic. But the reason I'm visiting this forum here (aside from wanting that account to get giant squid status asap - but that will be early april at the soonest) is that my new account, with only two lenses, has a yellow star. Is that because giant lenses, when transferred, stay giant lenses? And if a giant lens with a purple star gets transferred, it remains a purple star lens? I guess that makes some kind of sense (it's not suddenly non-giant quality after all), but it's surprising to me.

BTW - the yellow star disappears after I've edited the lens from my non-giant account. Bummer sad

Yep. I checked with the Giant Squid Organizers when I went for Giant 100 whether I'd be able to get a niche account into Giant status if I made more lenses for it, and the answer was nay. smile

Ah, why doesn't it say that on the giant squid lens? If I'd known that I would probably not have started the new account. It's even been nominated for giant already sad

And if I'd known that I wouldn't have run myself into the ground getting 51 lenses made by my cat in 9 weeks.

I wonder what the logic is behind not allowing someone to have Giant status on more than one account. Anyone know?

I'll tell my cat when he wakes up.

He'll be pleased - he became despondent when he was knocked back for Giant and took to sulking in corners

Oho! We all have Vladi to thank for it! His incredible erudition surely convinced the Giant Squid poohbahs that excellence cannot be contained to a single account.

Samhain is currently walking around and around me squeaking urgently, so that will be a "hallo" to Vladimir. (Or, possibly, "where have you BEEN the last 2 weeks?!!" since I left her to be fed by the neighbors.)

Re: yellow stars for non-giants?`

Here's the latest news from Giant Squid Blog:

About Giant Squid Multiple Accounts

As some of you already know, we were not allowing new multiple Giant Squid accounts but in light of several lensmasters requesting second accounts for use with special niche topics, we have reconsidered, and I’m happy to announce that starting with the next deadline, March 31st 2010, we will allow lensmasters to have more than one Giant Squid Account with the following stipulations:

No transferring lenses from one account to the other.

No cross-rating your own lenses from account to account.

The 50 new lenses in your second account will be held to our highest standards.

And please no anonymity — if multiple accounts are yours and you’d like them considered for Giant, let us know about it!

That gives you the entire quarter to make those second account lenses sparkle!

Good luck!

--------------

Looks like it's OK to have a multiple accounts and all of them are Giant Squids!

The mind boggles.  I know all the time it took to get to Giant status - the idea of getting two accounts to Giant status is overwhelming.  More power to you if you make that happen!

Squidoo wants quality lenses so allowing mutliple Giant accounts clearly makes senses.

NO transferring lenses from one account to the other? WHY?

But I'm glad they moved on this one anyhow.

Well, you know, with 300+ lenses to my name (290+ on my spirituality account and about 20 on the new one), fifty quality lenses really isn't that big a deal. I think at least 200 of those are up to giant squid standards.

Creating 50 high quality lenses on calendars is another challenge to be sure. Not sure they're all up to snuff. But I'm at ~45 lenses on that topic, so it's certainly doable. IF they allow transfer of lenses from one account to the other that is. If not - I don't stand a chance.

Anyhow Jaguarjulie - your modesty isn't quite convincing. You surely have enough quality lenses for three giant accounts smile

Re: yellow stars for non-giants?`

I've thought about this. The 'you can't transfer your lenses from one account to the other' is probably meant to prevent trickery - one account depleted of giant worthy lenses, the other suddenly (and perhaps temporarily) full of giant level lenses. I think the only fair way is to have the original account reevaluated for giant squid (or giant squid top 100 club). That way both accounts have to be up to giant squid level at the same time.

Re: yellow stars for non-giants?`

Robin responded to my question on the giant squid blog. What it amounts to is roughly what I suggested: the new account has to be convincingly 'new' and not merely a collection of known giant lenses. They have to keep us hanging a bit, to ensure that spammers don't misuse the system. All in all, I AM going to try for giant & I am going to be using this new account.

And since the rules already state that giant accounts that no longer contain 50 quality lenses will loose their giant status, it's clear that the old account can loose giant status just as easily as the new one can gain it. But let's not give the giant squid organizers a headache by trying that kind of flip flop, shall we? This rule makes sure they have an easy reason to turn the giant application down smile They may even get cranky and deny both accounts giant status.
