*The Forum Rules.
Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.
1. New to the lounge? Get started here. Learn which category to post your note in, and create a forum signature.
2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic or sockpuppet.
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.
What's the last official thing we've heard on groups? It seems to me it's been a long, long time ago.
It's fall now, and I'd really like to know what the status is.

On 9/24, I received a response to a group bug report I submitted, it reads as follows: "We're making big group changes soon, so watch for updates in the forum!"
No date or nothing about when, but, I think this is positive. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for sharing that. So I see that the "latest" word is the same word that's been circulating for months.
Okay. Got my answer.

The only upside is that some of the old group features have come back: guest books working for instance. I'm waiting for the news that someone edited their group lens without loosing their previous work. Brave enough to try? I'm not...

I've edited the intro and added modules with no problem. I haven't touched the featured lenses though.
Offline
No, not brave enough. Actually it's more of a patience thing. It really frustrates me when things go haywire on lenses/groups.
Why cause myself unneeded frustration? Just avoid it altogether.
I'm really tempted to delete my groups.

It is frustrating. I'm getting 70 visits a day on one of my groups - I could do so much more if I could redesign it a bit and promote it!

I have found that I can add lenses to my featured lenses if I write down the lenses that are already there and re-enter them before saving. If I forget to do that I open up a new webpage and load the Group page in the view mode so that I can remember the lenses that were in that module.
I wish there was some official word about groups.

I'm not brave enough to edit my group either. I think the existing tools were time consuming and clunky compared to the rest of Squidoo and the idea of having to re-enter existing lenses each time is just too much.
If HQ could just say "we aren't doing anything with groups for at least 3 or 6 or 9 months or whatever", then at least we'd know where we stand. It's the continued silence that is frustrating and disheartening.

I'm not even touching my group until we all know what's going on.

BINGO!
I was hoping Kimberly's Morning Coffee would be where we'd hear updates on these types of important things. (Disappointment)

I know we are constantly told we can't expect HQ to respond to concerns expressed in posts in the Lounge because they can't guarantee to read them all (so how can the forums be moderated properly?). Surely, after all the threads and posts in this forum over the last few months, someone from HQ must have noticed how unhappy many of us are with groups still in limbo - we don't know what will happen to them.
It really is time we were told something officially even if it's just to say they haven't made up their minds so carry on with groups as usual - then fix all the glitches so we can.
Offline

Since they have fixed some of the glitches, it does not appear that groups - even the existing groups - are totally abandoned. Since I've built links to them and some of my groups are even appearing in search results, I'd be VERY disappointed if the end result is that they're deleted. I'm just sticking to not editing them and waiting this out. There's enough to do, so I'm not even very frustrated at this limbo.

We'll have an update for you this week.

Thank you Gil!

Thank you Gil. Looking forward to it.

Yes! I am too. I've been dying to make a group or two on areas not actually covered by current groups!

Excellent!!!

Yay! So glad to hear it! I have such a backlog of people waiting to be admitted to several groups - it will take me a week of doing nothing else just to look at them all!

Oh thank you Gil!

Glad to hear that we will get that update on Groups. The featured modules are only workable of you do all the work again. That is not good. Waiting patiently.
Thanks, Gil and everyone for discussing this problem.

I feel like the woman in that old Mervyn's commercial, tapping my fingers on the glass and saying, "Open, open, open," except that I'm tapping on my monitor, saying to Gil, "Post it, post it, post it." ![]()

Thank you Gil! My poor group is very lonely. I haven't visited it for quite some time.
