Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.

1. New to the lounge? Get started here. Learn which category to post your note in, and create a forum signature.
2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic, sockpuppet, or link to irrelevant and non-Squidoo sites (includes signatures).
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.

September 30, 2009 Giant Squid Challenge

Back by popular demand,  the new Potential Giant challenge for the September 30th deadline is now officially on.

The rules:

Anyone interested in becoming a Giant Squid lensmaster is eligible and asked to keep track of their progress and lens count here, in this thread.  That's it!

Keeping track means that you check in here from time to time.  Dropping in with a single post will not count.  We want to see numbers, and or comments, and some serious cheerleading going on in here.

The goal is to help and encourage each other on the road to Giant Squid status.

The Prize:

Every lensmaster who keeps track of their progress on this thread AND becomes a Giant on September 30th 2009 will get a Spotlight feature at the Giant Squid Community Showcase blog.  http://www.giantsquidshowcase.com

Your Greeters are also running a Giant Squid Challenge.
You can learn more about the Greeters Challenge and choose your team by visiting:
Giant Squid Challenge September 2009

Re: September 30, 2009 Giant Squid Challenge

I'm up for it (I think).  I've got well over 50 lenses but many of them obviously need more polishing and content before I'm ready.  I look forward to the interaction and competition!

Re: September 30, 2009 Giant Squid Challenge

I think I'm going to give it a try.  I've only got 18 lenses so far and I think only about ten of them would qualify towards the goal.  So it looks like I need to make about forty quality lenses before September 30.  That's pretty intense.

Re: September 30, 2009 Giant Squid Challenge

I will do it this time!  I came so close for June, but I just couldn't find the time.  I'm still 5 away from the minimum of 50, and then there are a few that I made earlier on that won't really help me.  I can certainly make five lenses and change in a few months, especially with the traveling that I'm doing right now.  I've been taking pictures of many of the sites that I've been visiting, and hopefully I'll be able to put together some unique lenses for them.

Lens #45 for me is of Ocean Shores.  One of the things that I really like about this lens is that most of the pictures that I used were my own pictures.  For some topics, it's difficult to use your own photos and you have to rely on public domain and stock photos, but I just recently went there, so I got pictures for the lens.

Re: September 30, 2009 Giant Squid Challenge

I'm aiming to become a Giant Squid in September too. Good luck to all those going for the same goal.

I have 34 lenses at the moment. I'd guess 15 of those would be up to Giant Squid standard. I'll keep an update of my progress.

Re: September 30, 2009 Giant Squid Challenge

I'm in with the JJJ group, and very excited.  Hadn't really thought about it, until it was suggested so... hopefully it will go well.

I only have 13 lens and an add'l 4 WIP.  Lots of ideas, though.  I will need to concentrate on not only the creation of so many lenses, but the quality, as well.  Not sure I have that part down yet.

Good luck to everyone and I'm sure this will be tons of fun.

I'm on team WiWon.  Started this challenge with 44 lenses and a few wip.  I'm looking forward to improving what I have and getting whatever I can over the minimum done.

Re: September 30, 2009 Giant Squid Challenge

I am seriously going for Giant Squid for Sept. I have 31 lenses and the speed I have maintained I will have to not slack at all
or I will miss it again. I will have to make at least two lenses a week. Published one yesterday. Is it Giant worthy?

Re: September 30, 2009 Giant Squid Challenge

I'm trying to play catch up and am here a little later than most, but I'm up for the challenge. I know it's going to be a steep climb since I have only 9 lenses so far, but I'm going for it. I'm part of the WiWon team and I feel energized and enthusiatic and hopeful that I will make it. I'm exicted about being part of this challenge and being part of the WiWon team!

I would like to encourage all the potential Giant Squids to press on and give it their best shot...all the best!

Cheers,
AJ smile
