I am glad the purple stars have finally been put to use! I know many long time squidoo users have waited and wondered what this purple star thing was gonna be all about! Quarterly Prizes.... WOW, can't wait for that to take place!!

Great picks for the purple stars! It's going to be hard to top that list week after week, but I bet it will happen! And thank you for the purple star, I'm honored.

If the purple star program doesn't motivate people to become Giants, and if it doesn't demonstrate to them what makes a great lens, then I don't know what will!
Thanks for including me in the first batch of purple stars. I am very honored!

All well deserved!
We're also hoping that the purple stars motivate some of our best lensmasters to do MORE of what they do so well and that is to CREATE MORE AWESOME LENSES! ![]()
Go Giants!

No purple for me, but I haven't nominated anything yet. I have a couple that I think deserve it, but... I guess I'll "just do it!"

Congrats everyone on your Purple Stars! ![]()
That being said, I am confused. Bonnie's Purple Star lens states that you can submit a classic or existing lens for consideration. Yet, the Squidoo page on Badges states the following: "Purple stars: They're heeeere. Bow down to the purple star. Only a few purple stars are given out each week, to exceptional NEW lenses created by Giant Squids."
So, going forward, can existing lenses receive a Purple Star or is this program just for new lenses? ![]()

I think that they're giving preference to new lenses, but you can still occasionally submit old ones.

Yup, this is the case. New lenses get preferential treatment, but I would imagine if someone were to have an existing quality Work At Home lens, for instance, there are probably exceptions made is such cases. ![]()

Or, some other classic excellent 'quality' lenses by Giant Squids -- in other categories! I know there are quite a few of these that are the older lenses -- they have set the "stage" or "ground work" for other newer lenses that followed. I would definitely think that these will earn purple stars, but as the program states, the concentration is towards newer lens. So, maybe each week there were be 1 or 2 classic and 4 or 5 new? ![]()

Exactly, while we will be awarding Purple Stars to "Classic" older lenses, high quality new lenses will get preferential treatment!

That is what I figured. Although It is not how I had envisioned the Purple Star program would work when it was first announced. But, I suppose it is in Squidoo's best interest to have more and more lenses created. Hence this new program. They dangle a carrot in from of us and see who bites! LOL!
By the way, Colleen, thanks for your comment on my lens. Your are truly a sweetheart. ![]()

Ahhhh Boy......
This program wasn't exactly what I was led to believe either.
All of us were very excited many months ago (when many of those who are new giants now weren't even here).....to read what little info was available about the upcoming purple star.
If I remember right, it was to be available to every lensmaster, and the lenses were to be 'the cream of the crop' of Squidoo...........a very illusive, distinguished, and rare award, chosen by HQ. I was hopin' I might get 2.
Now that the rules have changed, it won't be so illusive, distinguished, or rare. ![]()

Congratulations to all purple star winners!

flowergardner - Just to clarify, we intend to keep purple stars VERY elusive, distinguished and rare! Only 6 lenses per week will be getting one. That's a very small amount in comparison to the many, many, many lenses on Squidoo! So the if one IS bestowed upon a lens it is certainly considered an honor.

Illusive?
I'm puzzled about the preference for optical illusions, but congrats to the purple people of Squidoo! ![]()
(Elusive, maybe?)

Thank you Greek for the comment and tactful notice to my spelling ![]()
I didn't comment to downgrade those that had received the purple star. Not at all. Congratulations everyone! I'm just a bit disappointed that the rules were changed to put emphasis (spelled right greek?) on the newer lenses, and only by giants.

Flowergardener: It's still for exceptionally good lenses with great content and is encouraging people to make great new lenses. Honestly though I expect that preference for new lenses or not we'll see a good balance of old and new because making a really great lens is hard and there just aren't that many that quality being made each week. I'm not sure yet how I feel about it only being open to Giants but we'll just have to see how it works out.
Offline
Thanks Cheryl,
yea, you're right, we'll just have to see how it works out ![]()
I just still think that it should be open for everyone. My first lens I created was My Flowergarden. It has consistantly been in the top tier since it's creation. I just think that if someone else did that, they couldn't be qualified for the purple star until much later, when they applied for 'gianthood', and was admitted.
