Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.

1. New to the lounge? Get started here. Learn which category to post your note in, and create a forum signature.
2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic, sockpuppet, or link to irrelevant and non-Squidoo sites (includes signatures).
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.

Re: YES! A Form on a lens - iframes are back

You're not wrong. I discovered this a couple weeks ago.

Here is why iframes are bad, and why they were removed in the first place:

So, don't expect iframes (or aweber forms) to be available for much longer...

Why not keep and just let people report abuse , as there are way more good than bad. ( I hope)

Why punish all when only a very few will abuse.

How about make it available once members meet a certain high status at Squidoo.

I'd love to see a way to be able to use iframes.  smile

As I understand it using iframes won't help you with search engines anyway - which I suppose isn't a problem if you get your traffic non organically.

Re: YES! A Form on a lens - iframes are back

Interesting, all I see in the source code is some JavaScript from clearspring.com. I thought JS didn't work in HTML modules either? Anyway, I think iframes shouldn't be allowed.

Why not keep and just let people report abuse , as there are way more good than bad.

From my experience they are very slow to react on reports, and Squidoo officials have said on more than one occasion that they have a very small team and often are "swamped" by all reports. Surely allowing iframes would create a huge amount of them = even bigger workload for the Squidoo team.

Re: YES! A Form on a lens - iframes are back

Chadrew: the code you're seeing is part of the Clearspring module. You can't type the code in directly; instead you find a widget on Clearspring and add it to your lens. There's a directory of lens friendly widgets at www.WidgetSquid.com

The security issue is not just limited to iframes and dodgy redirects either - javascript could also be used for bad things like cookie stuffing. A disreputable lensmaster could be stealing all of your affiliate revenue, and you'd never know and wouldn't be able to report them. I'm sure there are many other bad things that could be done with this technology...

Flash widgets, on the other hand, are much safer. Hopefully we'll be allowed to keep them.

Re: YES! A Form on a lens - iframes are back

And here I thought we were finally going to be able to use Aweber sign-up forms on our lenses, again.

I understand that iframes can be used for bad things, and it is good that Squidoo is stopping that from happening.

However, I would think that two companies like AWeber and Squidoo could find a way to work together so we could have an approved widget or module that would work with subscription forms without opening us up to the machinations of devious people.

Sigh.

All the best,

JD

It would be good if they allowed iframes for those with Giant Squid Status.

And any Giant Squids found abusing the privilege have their Giant Squid Status revoked.

Maybe only for The Super Giants, like 200 lenses or more.  smile

What if very specific iframes were allowed in an Iframe Module.

I'm thinking, those forms you mentioned above to sign up for newsletters or whatever, but also the Amazon aStores.

Squidoo could control it, I'm sure.

I hope not.
I like what you can do with iframes but it's too much of a problem,
and the consequences with search engines can be devastating, i.e. lost of traffic
for the squidoo.com domain.

Don't agree w/ the use iframes for giants squids. It's either everybody or nobody.
Why this has to be exclusive?

Well, the only reason to make it exclusive is that the more invested a person is, such as a Giant 100, then the less likely they would be to abuse the iframes.

Also, it could be a good reward.

I like the way you think Cinetech smile

I am reasonably invested in keeping a few lenses up in the ratings rather than making hundreds just to gain super giant status, and there is no reward for this kind of investment at the moment.

Sorry everyone, iframes are not coming back. Clearspring will be removing that functionality very soon.

Amen to that, Christine!  Out of 75 lenses, 50 are in tiers 1 and 2 (Mostly  2) and I'm going for Giant 100.

Re: YES! A Form on a lens - iframes are back

Today, I wrote an open letter to Tom Kulzer and Seth Godin to see if there is a way that AWeber and Squidoo can work together to create a solution to this problem.

Perhaps a new module can be developed that makes it possible to add an active subscription form without opening up the problems that javascript and iframes bring.

You can read it here:

http://www.squidoo.com/aweber-squidoo

Can AWeber and Squidoo work together? I hope so.

Act on your dream!
