Just received an email to say I had a message in my guestbook from Jaguar Julie, saying she thought my lens was higher in the rankings and has it dropped lately?

I thought to myself, dropped? Well yes, it is dropping as the topic is "Squidoo" and you can only get so many visits from within the community, but I tootled over to have a look and... whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttt???????????????????????????

Yesterday it was 6136. I have regularly tweaked and refreshed and it was still getting traffic, more than a few of my other lenses. I'd had some nice messages in the guestbook but to drop 38,249 places to 44,385 overnight? It was ranked 23 just over 3 weeks ago, I just don't understand it!

Am trying to work out what happened. I have this vision of a Cloud of Angels appearing over my poor little lens and "dinging" it out of existence - no, no, no, my imagination is just working overtime

Has this happened to anyone else?

BTW the lens is Squid Etiquette

Either there is a glitch in the system or this can be attributed to Squid Angel retirees. I made mention of it here in post #15.

It hasn't been blessed in along while, which is why it gradually dropped from 23 to 6136 - I assumed that it was because there were less visits and the blessings were fading as they do in time.

If it is because Angels have retired I would have thought that this puts a lens at an unfair disadvantage. I wonder if more people will be getting a shock as the day goes on?

I am also experiencing some very weird LR changes the past few days...

it stayed in the top 100 for 12 days before dropping like a rock overnite to about 3500 last week

today is the first time I've logged into this acct for awhie to check stats...and it was back at $138 with absolutely nothing to my knowledge being done...no new blessings, lower traffic etc

I NEVER will understand this LR logarithm

I'm in the same boat - only I have 3 formerly published (green) lenses (one that was ranked #2413 yesterday - now back in the red zone. I'm kind of glad that it's not just me. I know it's a glitch and it'll get worked out. At first, I thought I did something bad - like I didn't sacrifice enough virgins and Gil was spanking me.

My #2413 is now ranked #510,332 and Classed WIP. Oh, the fun!

There are serious glitches happening.
My dashboard does not match with the top 100. I have a lens that my dashboard says is #20, but top 100 puts at #36, and 3 other lenses my dash says is in top 100 but don't appear at all.

I hope it's not too messed up, because my dashboard looks good. Most everything went up today, which was great because mine went down yesterday even with plenty of visits, stars, comments, group joining, etc. I can't do much more for the next few days that check email SquidU and dashboard on the slow dial up connection.

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of some optimizations to minimize the effect that lensrank recalculation has on site performance every morning. It looks like there are a few minor bugs and I'm working to sort them out now.

I figured it was something like that. My big drop was a couple of weeks ago - some have recovered a bit today. Long range everything seems to return to normal when this happens - and long term Squidoo keeps getting better. I'll wait; it keeps a squid's life interesting.

Damn! and I thought the 3 lenses I had appear in the top 1000 this morning desrved to be there including the one in the top 100!

Expect a lot of panic as people forget payrank isn't related at all to the lensrank you end a month on anymore, but due to the average over a month. I'm still seeing people referring to the end of the month being the time to quick edit lenses to get a boost for payrank calculations.

I hope it doesn't change too much when Gil gets done. I had been steadily loosing lenses out of the top tier, from 25 to 11 in the last 2 months. Today I've got 15.

So VERY glad to hear that the lenses the group of Angels blessed that are now done with their duties have not lost the blessings. Whew! Just didn't seem right to me!

I hit the panic button this morning when one of my lenses dropped into the dreaded red WIP! After all the work I did to promote it - to no avail. Very discouraging.

I just wanted to post this little "me too" note to encourage others who may be reading this thread - not to panic if this happened to you. You are not being punished even tho it feels like it
But glad to see the problem is being fixed.

Me too. It seems alot of lensmasters still think they can pump their lenses all during the last week of each month, as I still see my lenses struggling during that time due to the overload.

Well I just hope it does not mean that my lens that is now in the Top 100 should not be there - it is a very deserving lens (in my view) and it is very dear to my heart..

Ah well, you cant have it all and thanks for the note Gil, it's good to know what's going on.

Maybe everyone is giving Gil to many virgins and when he's not looking they start to play around and mess everything up, be careful now as how many you sacrifice got to keep Gils head on right

I was wrong I roughly lost 600 - 1000+ lens rank for each lens. Will it get a boost once everything is in order? Or will it start from there... I can't believe I'm losing sleep over a simple thing like lens rank... HAAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!! Ohh well.... more virgins to Gil then... This time I'll really sleep... bye again folks...

And some of my lenses that I had tweaked and promoted had gone up today too, not back to where they were a month ago, but higher at least. I guess I can expect every single one to drop again tomorrow

I'm so sorry you guys! I dropped the ball. :-(

I went to light some incense and found that my dear eldest daughter and fellow lensmaster (who is feeling poorly due to her wisdom teeth coming in) had already lit a cherry (*gasp*) tart.

I'm gagging now. I hate cherry. My whole house reeks of cherry cough syrup now. Yuck. The windows are all open, the fans are on, the tealight is out (OMG - the tart was from Arts and Hearts - those puppies are STRONG) and I'll get on some more pleasing offerings for dear Gil ASAP.

I guess he hates the smell of cough syrup too.

Yup, I saw this rank bomb happen in real time this am ... all my lenses reported 0 on the dash, then my best (4 in the top 100) dropped off the top to about 100 lower all 'round. I also saw that the top 100 list still showed what seemed more realistic based on months of past performance and didn't match my ranking list on the dash. Seemed to me a symptom of code blip - thanks for the update, Gil. We appreciate the effort, truly.

Err, I work on my 70+ lenses every week - some of them every day. I never gave a thought to time of month except if I have a holiday-related lens and I see an upward traffic spike, which I would expect. I just keep tweakin' em to make 'em better ... I did have 4 in the top 100 until this am, and 20 in the top 500. I'll just sit tight while Gil does his own tweaking, and carry on with my lens tasks.

I was just looking at your lenses last night Pastiche, great rankings (well at least they were) but what amazed me was the traffic - your costumes for kids lens is getting over 1,000 visitors a day. That's amazing! Of course it's Halloween, but I wonder how many other lenses devoted to Halloween are seeing that type of traffic.

Makes me a bit jealous when I struggle to get one person knocking at the door every day on some lenses

I didn't have time last night, but I'm going to check them out tonight time permitting.
