Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.

1. New to the lounge? Get started here. Learn which category to post your note in, and create a forum signature.
2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic or sockpuppet.
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.

A Word About Self Promotion

All of us are about promoting our lenses.  Promoting some product, service, and/or concept is what Squidoo is all about.  Having said this, the introduction forum is not the place to promote your lens!  The introduction forum is for introducing yourself to the SquidU community.

If you are new, and find your introduction deleted and or modified, then you are probably guilty of the above.  If your intro was deleted, we still want to hear from you!  With self promotion in check, please post again.  smile

We all want to promote our lenses.  Using discretion, here are a few ideas to promote your lens in the forum:

Consider asking the members to critique your lens in the Critique Me Forum.

Adding your lens to your forum signature (in your SquidU profile, go to personality).

Requesting a blessing from a SquidAngel in the Angels Forum.  But first, your lens needs to be worthy of a blessing!

Last, but certainly not least, contribute to the discussions in SquidU.

Remember, promote with discretion.

Let us have a wonderful experience in Squid University.  Welcome aboard!  wink

Re: A Word About Self Promotion

Good points.   However when I see someone new in the Introduction section I usually click on their profile and take a look at their lenses anyhow, just to see what they are interested in, and I'm always looking for some new and unique lenses.

You don't always have to directly promote yourself to get lens traffic.

Re: A Word About Self Promotion

Hey to fellow Squidooer's.
I am here, I am a newbie, and wow! I made my first Lens!  I shook in my boots when I pushed the publish button.   Anyhow, I have been all over Squidoo and am having the time of my life reading and learning and reading and learning and ...... I can see that addiction to lensing is an understatement.   I can't wait to make my next one.  The ideas are keeping me awake at night.  OMG what is happening to me?   I just had to say hi to all.

Lol... this definitely sounds familiar. I have often run into my office to scribble down an idea before I even go down to breakfast. One idea simply triggers another one. I don't think that there is a topic on Squidoo that hasn't been written about... twice!

Glad to meet you btw smile

Re: A Word About Self Promotion

Yep, it's like a whole new world! Welcome and good luck :-)

I've been on squidoo for just a couple of weeks and am already well and truly addicted! I sit down to just check my email and then have a 'quick peek' at my squidoo stats .. then I realise another hour has gone by and I've been looking at lenses, reading, learning, laughing...

Enjoy!

Re: A Word About Self Promotion

Hi

I'm Mick. Live in Tucson. Moved here in 2001 from Atlantic City NJ

Tucson is a nice city. Very friendly people, well laid out, easy to get around, reasonable prices among other positive features.

Several days ago I submitted a lense: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner in Tucson. I've spent quite a few hours trying to learn the best way to benefit.

The information on this sight looks very helpful but it overwhelms me somewhat.

So here I am taking one step to get to know others and get any kind of assistance I can

In another area, politics, I may be able to give assistance, advice or help in some form.

I'm a junkie, formerly had my own tax business, and feel that I know the politics of taxes quite substantially.

I also have a political website that takes a great deal of my time.

Re: A Word About Self Promotion

Hi, I'm James and I live in the UK.
I joined in early April although my profile says "Registered: 01/01/1970" hmm
I'd heard people say this is addictive and I think they could be right.  I don't think a day has gone by when I  haven't been here looking to improve a lens or create a new one.

Doh.  I shouldn't have put this as a reply should I.  How do I delete this post?

Re: A Word About Self Promotion

I joined some monthes ago on Squidoo and I do not know, why I did not find the forum earlier... smile

Now I'm here and, of course, like to introduce myself. I'm grateful for the tips here and I hope everyone would excuse my not perfect English - I'm from Germany... Thanks a lot for your understanding.

I in this moment saw, that my profile says, I were registered since 1969... big_smile Can anybody say me, where I can change it? In setting my profile I could not find a possibility to change this date. Thank you!

Re: A Word About Self Promotion

Hello. I am new, too! I joined Squidoo about a year ago. It wasn't until recently I started to make the time and focus on making my first len and really explore the site. I made and published my 1st lens several weeks ago. Just getting around to introduce myself. I appreciate the tips and support the Squidoo community provides to it's members. Thank You.
