I just noticed a bit of money on two of my lenses (go figure!) and I am curious about something. If the money is attributed to a specific lens, does that indicate that something was sold? Or does it mean that the shared google revenue is applied to specific lenses?
Also, how is Google revenue shared, anyway? Does every lensmaster get some, or only top ones, or what?

Have you filed a bug report yet?
Sorry, just feeling a bit goofy. It's Friday afternoon... ![]()

It means something was sold. Ad royalties don't show up in the dashboard.

Please bare with us while we look into this.
Just kidding.
All lensmasters receive some share of the ad revenue. How much is determined based on their average LensRank and traffic.
Offline

Heath: Weird! Wonder what sold?
And for Travis: SMACK!
Gil: You've got to be kidding. Almost none of the truly TOP lensmasters have high "average lensrank." Surely that's not a good way to decide? Or is it *total* traffic?

AdSense revenue is distributed on a lens-by-lens basis, not by lensmaster. So the number of lenses you have doesn't affect how each of them gets paid.

I'm a little confused about what you meant by "how much is determined by their average lensrank." Help?

I can't WAIT to see this explained in depth.

From Squidoo's TOS:
Two kinds of earnings: The Squidoo CO-OP divides incoming revenue into two piles. The first pile we call “pooled revenue†. This is revenue that is not directly attributable by Squidoo to a particular Lens. For example, when we sell sponsorship ads on a Search Results page. Or when an affiliate is paying us income based on our overall performance, as opposed to performance of one trackable Lens.
The second pile of earnings we call “attributable revenue.†This, you’ve probably guessed, is revenue that we choose to track directly to a particular Lens.
We use pooled revenue to pay our overhead and then allocate pay it to Lenses based on their LensRank and traffic. We use attributable revenue to pay any remaining overhead and then distribute the CO-OP share (50%) directly to the Lenses that earned it.

This is all in the terms of service: http://www.squidoo.com/pages/tos
#8 in this case.

That doesn't address the specifics I asked about. It says that pooled revenue is shared, but it doesn't say how.

I think this is where Heath comes back and says something about how the actual details of PayRank can't be shared.... like he did in another thread when it got to this point.
Offline
well.... I would be happy if my payments actually made it through... I haven't received a payment for the past 2 months even though my lenses have made sales and the totals exceeded the minimum payment threshold.
I think someone at Squidoo is getting rich off of my $2.07... :-)
Offline
That's part of why I keep saying that Squidoo has to change our stats to not only show what sales were made but exactly when. Since there's a two month lag between when the sale happens and when the actual payment comes through, tracking on our end is pretty much worthless.

Ronen, keep in mind that the only months we've paid out so far were April and May. Your lenses did earn money in those months, but in either month it was not enough to meet the minimum threshold. We still have those royalties in our system and they will be included in the next payout (for June). Your lenses earned significantly more money in June and July, which we haven't payed out yet, and which is probably what you're confused about.
As for PayRank, the scale we use to determine royalties from Google ads, it was already covered in as much detail as possible in this post. There is no secret formula. We figure out the average LensRank of a lens throughout the pay period, as well as how much traffic it receives, and distribute a portion of the earnings based on how that lens compares to other lenses in the system. Then, we add up the lens totals for each lensmaster and include them in the payment.

Oh! The average lensrank of the LENS! Thanks, Gil.

Later today, we're going to introduce some changes that will help lensmasters better control when they get paid.
Soon, you'll be able to choose what your pay-out threshold is when editing your My Accounts page. This way, it'll be easier to monitor your royalties -- while avoiding monthly notifications for smaller balances.
We've also introduced a dozen-plus more nonprofits that you can choose from when allocating where your royalties go.
Just a head's up that there will be some new features to check out later today!

And we're also in the process of developing better reporting tools and bank-style archived monthly statements. However, the new reporting tools won't be ready until the end of August.

Sounds excellent. Great job guys.

So, it looks like some lensmasters are making money! That's great!!
I haven't yet, but I wondered if the payout threshold is for each lens, or if I can get paid when my total from all lens reaches the threshold?

If we have an E-Bay item listed on our Lens, and it sells, do we get some kind of kickback from E-Bay? If so, does it still count if the listed item was our own? What about Cafe Press?
Thanks!

Hi Marti,
That's correct. If someone purchases a product from an Amazon, eBay, CafePress, or Superstore module on your lens, you receive a royalty for that sale.
