Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.

2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic or sockpuppet.
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.
I don't know how all of you guys and ladies handle these things, but I've officially gotten completely fed up with spammers hitting my link plexos. I've just found that module to be completely detrimental. Even my Amazon plexos were hit hard, I had to delete all of those or turn off visitor contributions.
If you've been on Squidoo for a long time and have hundreds of lenses and groups, check back on your oldest ones, and you might have some nasty surprises to tend to
If it werent for the email notifications that I enabled, I would have never known about many of them.

Honestly, I don't use them that often but when people add things to my plexos I usually get the emails letting me know so I can check them right away.
Offline
yup, got a spammy forex guy spamming my plexo on my lens about a recent Terry Pratchet book. Should really go check through a few old lenses!
Offline
I've seen a lot of spam on them when I was browsing other lenses ![]()
Seemed like a good idea for a module, but that turned me off of them completely. Would be nice if we had a different option of sorts, or could limit only active squidoo users with % lensrank maybe to add to them
Offline
I don't use them that much anymore either. But isn't there an option where they have to be preapproved on plexo modules?
Offline
I just logged in to find a bunch of Watch World of Warcraft Videos links on my plexos today.

You folks do realize you can, and should, report such activity as spam. If the spam link is to another Squidoo lens, you can go to that lens and report the spamming by using the Report Abuse link at the very bottom of each lens.
I'm not a big fan of plexos. I have some on my Ground Fog Day lens but I get notifications by email whenever someone submits something. There's very little activity. I've seen a lot of plexos on lenses by many different people, and one thing I notice is that there is usually very little activity on them.

I had one of those on my Kingsnake lens. I had some trouble a while back, but after deleting them and reporting the spammers site, today's was the first in a while. The email really helps.

I've only got plexos on a couple of lenses, but they don't seem to be getting hit by any spammers. Haven't noticed any changes to traffic to the lenses that do have them.
Offline

I have destroyed all my plexos. I am sick to death of removing the crapp from them

What is the best way to report them? I am not sure if it worth Squidoo's time to look into it as they seem very busy. Any advice would be appreciated. Now I'm getting hit with some crappy get your ex back site.

If the spam is coming from within Squidoo, then use the Report Abuse link at the bottom of the offending lens. Be sure to give details, such as the URLs of your lenses that got spammed. Yes, the staff is very busy. Maybe too busy to keep a lid on spam for a site that now has over 900,000 lenses. Sooner or later, they're going to have to come up with some way to deal with it or Squidoo will get overwhelmed by junk and spam.
If the spam is coming from outside Squidoo, the best thing to do is disallow HTML in your comments or restrict comments to logged in Squidoo members. I have email notifications turned on for my lenses. I don't always get all that many comments, so it hasn't been a problem so far. If you're getting a lot of comments and find that option takes up too much time, maybe you'll need to keep track of comments another way.

They seem to be all coming today, I don't know if it all the same person or if there was some new black hat ebook released. My guess is that it is all the same guy's stuff as they are all junk sites related to CB products. I think I am just going to make it so that people can not add to my plexo's anymore which is a pity. It would be great if they were used as intended but for every one good plexo there is 4 bad plexo's submitted.

There's an automated black hat tool for mass adding them. Can't remember where I saw it, someone's signature on the digital point forums I think

What dirtbags, at least each one they plex reminds me to turn that one off.

Dirtbags is far too polite a term

and todays theme for plexo's seems to be 'get your ex back'.
Wonder if HQ have any plans to deal with this as many of the submissions to plexos musty be successful and the only gains here are the spammers, possibly at the expense of squidoo being seen to link to spam sites. Maybe they should switch all plexos to 'approval required' before links are posted just as a default method of making these spammers have less success.
Offline
The only way that HQ will get an idea of the problem is to report it. Even if they are unable to deal with it at the moment at least they will get an idea of what is going on.
Everyone needs to take responsibility on stuff like this if they see it.

I got one of those today!! (I feel so special.) The thing is, they have to be a Squidooer to leave something, but then they didn't leave a link that I could trace to report.
Agreed. I wish the plexos were approval required just like the guestbooks. I use them so rarely that it's not a big deal for me to handle spam as it happens, but if I was using it more, yikes!

Most of my plexos are set so they cannot be added to, but I will check mine. I happen to like the module as an alternative way to link to other lenses.
Offline

Yep, thanks to this thread I began paying more attention to my plexos and there was the "get your ex" back link.
I get the notice in my emails about new plexos but it doesn't say what was actually plexo-ed, while comment notifications tell you what someone said.
I haven't been hit so hard that I want to get rid of plexos, yet, though. I love the concept community participation that's concept behind them. Maybe they need captchas?
Hmmm, I can also see a potential problem, though, because you can put in your url and then change the title. So the title could look like it's part of the plexo but be a link to something totally unrelated. Bummer!

Is it worth reporting? I'm certainly not sticking my hand up and getting it slapped

Ener-G, I had 13 spam links this morning from the "get your ex back" bandit. What a scumbag!
Half were on food lenses, so I deleted the comments and left the plexos as-is so people can still leave recipe links. The other half were on my notary lenses where I have plexos with legal forms and resources. I'm no longer allowing adds on those plexos, but it took me a couple of hours to reset everything.
Thanks for bringing this up, Pixelrage. I'm sorry you felt the need to abandon your plexos, but I totally understand!

and todays favorite spamlink is to an health expert website!!!
I really don't use the plexo mode too much, but if it is so easily spammed I certainly will think twice before using in future! Surely there must be a method for flagging up this spammer(s) if they submitting the same link to multiple plexos!

I've had several health expert hits this morning, had the get your ex back hits yesterday, too.
Most of mine are set to approve first, but a few aren't, so I check each one and have changed those plexos to have to approve first.
I love plexos, but in most cases I'll be changing them to not allow submissions. Too bad.
