*The Forum Rules.
Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.
1. New to the lounge? Get started here. Learn which category to post your note in, and create a forum signature.
2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic or sockpuppet.
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.

I like looking a new lenses. I like helping new Lensmasters. I hope my critiques are polite and I hope they are helpful. But.........
......like a lot of people on here, my time is limited. I could be making lenses of my own. I could be promoting them - not just on Squidoo, but other places as well.
However, I remember what it was like when I first joined Squidoo and what a very steep learning curve it was. If it had not been for established Lensmasters who were willing to freely give of their time to share their tips and experience, then it would have been a massive (and lonely) task to learn as quickly as I did. Critiquing lenses is my way of giving back and I suspect that is what motivates a lot of other Lensmasters to do it as well.
So, if you are asking for a critique:
1. Please read Kimberley's post about what to do BEFORE you ask for a critique
2. If you are asking people to visit your lenses, they are less likely to do so if they check your Bio and see that despite the fact that you are asking for visits to check out your lenses, you have not rated or favourited any lenses by other Lensmasters - this is a give and take community, with the balance weighted towards giving
3. Do not post requests for help on the same lens in several threads - see Note 2 in the Forum guidelines
4. Be patient - we are all in different timezones - and if you get no responses, then either you have been unlucky or *gasp* the topic of the lens is one that people on here just dont fancy looking at, particularly if the topic is the same as or similar to lots of other new lenses. Repost - but in a couple of weeks, not a couple of days, time. If you still don't get any responses then let it go
5. If you don't get any responses, dont "bump" the post. Dont add a message just for the sake of bringing it back to the top of the page. People have seen your message, they really have but, for whatever reason, have chosen not to respond
Squidoo is a great community, with lots of people willing to give of their time to help others. If we all follow the guidelines then it will stay that way.

One of the most important things:
Put the title or subject of your lens in the thread subject.
This is the critique section, so no need to ask for critique in the thread subject.
That will save people some time and your get more visit to your lens.

Just bringing this back to people's attention. It's a busy time of year. People have less time to do critiques. Follow the Forum guidelines & read that sticky - please ![]()

I am right on par with Rufus. Since I became a member..less than a week ago..I have enjoyed critiquing because it indvertantly gives me access to some newer, and frequently cool lenses. However, I dislike having to click through a few threads just to find one of interest to me (so I can give it honest feedback).

Hey Seasoned Lensmasters...lighten up! If I were a Newbie, I'd be quaking in my slippers by now afraid to submit anything. If you haven't got any time...don't come here to critique!

I wouldn't even feel right asking for a critique, if I hadn't at least made an effort to critique quite a few others, before I submitted my own....... ![]()
So often, I see people just come here, and post asking for a critique....only to never care enough to help others by giving a critique to them......
1-Post-Wonders.........they post asking for a critique......they check back to see if anyone has......and, the only responses they give are intended to bump their own threads to the top.....
...that's not cool.....

For me it's not a question of not having time - it's a question of spending what time I make available in the most productive way. Its easier to critique and also give more positive feedback if people would just read the Sticky before posting it on here.
Putting the lenstopic in the subject line would make it easier for people to decide if they want to look at the message with a view to going on to the lens.
I enjoy critiquing because I get to find lenses and lensmasters I may not find otherwise and it is a way of giving back to the community that has been so supportive of me. But I am getting to the stage where I am considering either stopping or only only critiquing Lensmasters I know - which may come as a relief to a small section of the Community
- because of the reasons outlined by x3xsolxdierx3x.

What is annoying is seeing even lensmasters with quite a few lenses who have done very few rankings of other lenses and hardly ever post here in the Lounge. They can't be bothered to spend any time on anybody else's lenses but want others to help them.
Newbies to any forum are always recommended to hang around and get an idea of what is acceptable and, of course, to read sticky posts. Why should that be different here. I've been in some forums where newcomers can get really hammered for not doing this. What gets said here is quite mild in comparison.
By following the advice in the sticky post, anybody who wants a critique has the best chance of getting one and receiving good advice about what to do to improve their lens, if necessary.

Hi, AJ. Followed a link to this forum post from one of your lenses. Very helpful information and, THANK YOU, for the selfless efforts you put forth on behalf of ALL the squids!
