*The Forum Rules.
Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.
1. New to the lounge? Get started here. Learn which category to post your note in, and create a forum signature.
2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic or sockpuppet.
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.
The first announcement in our brand new, squeaky clean announcements forum is much requested, and we've been really excited about getting it up and running. Starting today, we're releasing a module development kit (mdk for short) that makes it easy for third party developers to build new modules for Squidoo.
Interested? If so, visit our developers lens, and then drop by our developers forum if you have any questions.
Two modules we'd love to see are Etsy and a weather widget. Got any other module ideas? Let us know and we'll add them to the list.

Hooray for new modules! I'll have to brainstorm some that I'd like to see since I am no longer as code-savvy as I used to be.

Coooooool...!
I want a clickbank module.
Feed the best sellers by keyword or category onto my lens. That's like $20 per sale! Split with Squidoo, that'd be quite a profitable module!
Offline

Brilliant.
I know some people who may be interested in it, even if they haven't yet joined Squidoo.

I'd like to express my interest in that Clickbank concept too Lewis!
Smoooookin'!

What about a Sign Up To Squidoo module? And improve the sign up process so a person can become a registered member rather then the process being all about creating a lens.

Surfers can already register for a non-lensmaster account in order to submit guestbook entries, vote on plexos, and saving favorites. Try logging out and voting on a Plexo to see how the new registration process works.
Offline

Niiiiice.
Man, whatever they're paying you it's not enough. That looks SWEET.
I logged out and tried the Plexo voting at http://www.squidoo.com/namethesquid
Now just to clarify, if an unsuspecting member of the public stops by and tries to vote and gets the "Hey smarty! To make your vote count, login or join Squidoo for free." and they're not a member, would (in this case) AngelaHarms get the referral and that newly registered member get $5 credited to their account?

PS: I notice the lensmaster referral links still take a person to "Step 1: So, what's your lens about?" after getting the page that says...
44,165 people are already proud members of Squidoo! Aren't you?
Yes, I already have an account
Not yet—this is my first lens!

I'd like to see:
* PayPal module (to accept payments for ebooks and such)
* LongText module (accepts, say, 20,000 characters, but only shows the first 1,000 when you view the lens, then click "more" or whatnot to read the rest)
* Preformatted Table module (would allow you to create a table that looks like an Amazon multi-book banner. Three thumbnail images across with a short text link underneath each, for example. Max three rows? Could be used for all sorts of items - lulu.com, affilate products that aren't supported by Squidoo, personal artwork showcase, etc.)
* Countdown to date/event module (tons of uses for personal and event lenses)
* MiniBlog module (works like an RSS feed but only holds 10 or so entries, and limited to X number of characters each. New entries automatically rotate to top. Great for baby updates, how-to lenses, vacation journal, etc.)
* Hangman module (lensmaster gets to define possible words. Would be fun for contests and terminology.)
* Skype module (I wouldn't personally use it, but it could come in handy for many.)
* Social networking modules (ClickID, MySpace, Ryze, LinkedIn, Friendster, Hi5, etc. What would it show? *shrug* A virtual business card that incorporates components from the user's profile page?)
* A music module (that plays a song from ...somewhere?)
* NPR module (click directly into NPR radio)
That's all I can think of for now. More later. ![]()

Me thinks Kimberly isn't taking this too seriously.
Just kidding!
Great list.

In addition to that maybe a Multiple Choice module. That way you could have a test. And perhaps by getting all the answers right it allows the testee to then access the next module or webpage that is linked.

How about a module that can be sorted alphabetically? This would be really helpful in many cases especially in creating a directory...
Offline
relache, Yes that's it. What module did you use to create this? If you add a new item will it automatically insert (sort) in the right order?
Offline
That's just a regular link list module, and I typed the entries in alphabetical order. Sometimes doing things the good old-fashioned way works really easily and quickly.
Offline
My wish list:
1. Tables, especially if they could sort dynamically.
2. Maps that would allow the size to be adjusted.
3. Graphing ability.
Offline
relache, That's fine for a few items but what do you do when you have hundreds or thousands of entries? and you need to add one more? I still think a sort list module is much needed...

Cool ideas everyone is having!

If you have more than 10 or 15 entries, you would be doing your reader a service to break your list into many modules. If you really have 100 or more links, I can tell you that I personally would get lost or bored after the first few dozen. In that case your reader would be better served by separate lenses for even more focused topics. Providing too much info can be just as bad or worse than not enough info.

This is just brainstorming, but a calendar might be useful.

Oooh I like that.

Kimberly, There are many incidences where a single line entry of data would be much better organized in alphabetic listing. A directory (ie. phone listing). Especially when you don't have a complete list to start and you are adding to it randomly. I realize one can always type it in by hand but it just makes a lot of sense to have a module with the functionality of sorting. This is a basic computer operation that can be easily implemented. I am not suggesting creating a lens with hundreds or thousands of entries. In which case, I would create a separate lens for each letter (A, B, C...) however, within each letter, it still would be advantageous to be able to sort all the A entries...

Ditto on the PayPal module!

I like the idea of a Paypal module. Provided that anyone who tries to use it to beg for money ("I've just made this site, and I could really do with some money, etc, etc, etc...") have their Paypal module rights revoked.
In fact I think it should be made only available to Lensmasters who have demonstrated a certain standard of Squidooing.
