*The Forum Rules.
Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.
1. New to the lounge? Get started here. Learn which category to post your note in, and create a forum signature.
2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic or sockpuppet.
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.

You too can do it!
Step 1) Claim a lens!
Step 2) Select suitable modules.
Step 3) Fill modules with content.
Step 4) Click the Publish Button
Step 5) Wait until next lensranking.
I followed these five simple steps and went from 647,700 to 117,506 OVERNIGHT. With no traffic!

Maybe I shouldn't have given away my secret for free. Maybe I should have sold it as an ebook.

Glen: Seriously! Now I feel bad for having read this for free - where shall I send you the 9.95?

Does that mean that there has been 530,000 inactive lenses? Or what?
BTW, I have sent you a mail Glen, but haven't receive a answer. Just wonder - have you receive it?

As far as I know, publishing or updating a lens gives it a small boost in lensrank.

Naaa, just a myth! Just publishing a lens, will not any value to the lensrank. But if you update/add something, then, yes, without doubt ![]()

This is the Secret Tip of the Year!

OMG! I have seen the light. May I bask in publishing/updating glory now?
;-)
I'm so tempted to write a lens called "Why Not To Wet Your Pants With Excitement When You Get A Great Lensrank Quick".

I believe just updating a lens and publishing it has been taking away from the lensrank algorithm.
I use to notice a small lensrank boost from a publish, but not anymore!

Good thing, too! It never made too much sense.

I haven't received it. Did you send it via my contact form? Because it's a bit hit and miss with that. There's something wrong with it I'm sure. Some get through, some don't. I'm going to submit bug report on that.

I want to add seriously, that I am new on Squidoo, but I am setting goals for myself on the total amount of hits on my pages as well as the individual pages. When I hit a goal, yesterday was 350 hits total for my 7 days, then I set a new one--just upped my goal to 400. I am going through my lenses over and over to make them better and add more links, bookmarks etc. I figure that if I keep working on all of them and they all go up, that can only be a good thing.

Someone please continue the story. What do you do next to get the rank from 117,506 to, say, 17,506?
Offline
Well the next step is simple.....
Post it on Squidu!
My James James lens bounced up to #6885 within 3 days of first publishing it! Now at #9094.
LOL

Oh, that's way too many steps Glen! Couldn't there just be one button and it automatically ranks well?

getting to 50000 is easy, you just add a lot of content and module, videos, amazon etc.
getting it to 10000 is more of a challenge, this requires leaving some comments on top ranked lenses getting a lot of traffic, networking, social network sites and forums.
getting to sub 1000 is difficult.
Ive only got one lens out of 25 there and not neccesarily due to my actions, one day it just picked up and started getting loads of traffic!

It's reasonably easy to get into the top 10,000 with only a few visits, however getting into the top 100 or higher takes both a good lens, relevant traffic, clickouts, stars, backlinks, and maybe a blessing or 2 or 3...
