*The Forum Rules.
Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.
1. New to the lounge? Get started here. Learn which category to post your note in, and create a forum signature.
2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic, sockpuppet, or link to irrelevant and non-Squidoo sites (includes signatures).
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.
I would like to share with you step by step how I went to being in the top 2000 rankings for one of my lens' in 3 days.
1. Create a lens using the steps outlined in the guides that are provided for free all over squidoo. Use enough modules that relate to the lens, and don't forget a guestbook at the bottom so people can voice their opinion. Here's where I started off
http://www.squidoo.com/workathomewithsquidoo
2. Learn how to use SEO to get your lens ranked within google. (You'll want to do this in the early stages of the game because it takes a while for Google to crawl) Make your lens optimized with the keywords you are targeting, but don't over use the keywords. You want the lens to be readable and written by you - not the keywords.
3. Make your lens long enough for a good read, but not too long so people don't want to read it. You want to do this by using quality content that comes from 'you'. Not some prepackaged information you found on the internet. What was your experiences with the product/service/topic. Of course you can use facts that you've found and some sources, but provide your own opinion. That's what makes lens' sticky.
4. Now that you have a lens that is optimized for the search engines (you won't see much traffic at the beginning) and great content. Join the forum here. First, introduce yourself at the introduction section of the forum. Next, add a link to your lens in your signature. Get used to the forum, and do not spam. Ask real questions, answer questions from your perspective, give real insight, and don't drop links everywhere. If you want people to check out your lens for improvement go to the critique section of the forum.
5. View other people's lens that you are interested in. Read the whole lens, and leave a comment on their guestbook. Tell them what you think of the lens, and do not leave generic messages that you copy and paste on every lens. I wouldn't advise posting a link in your comment - if people appreciate your comment they will check out your profile, and go to your lens and sometimes leave comments.
6. If you like what the author has to say in their lens become a fan, and favourite the lens you really like.
I have come to realize that it takes quite a bit of work to move up in the rankings, but if you put a genuine effort into it, and you will be rewarded.

Thanks for the tip!

Wow
Great post, thank you, now if we can only get this info out to the huge mass of lensmasters who never visit here.
Idea:
Make it a little shorter and get Megan to put it in a certain "Blue Box" ![]()
P.S. Nice Flag

i've the same opinion, you should make a lens with this text, you've sufficient material for that.

That's the basics alright
Getting a higher ranking may also happen if you:
- sell stuff through the sales modules like amazon and cafepress.
- get some real traffic from outside of squidoo (this is where your SEO tip comes in)
Getting involved here in squidoo on other peoples lenses will certainly get your lenses voted on more and that's also a help.

Actually that's impressive you could do all that in 3 days.
How many forum messages and comments did you leave in that time to get all that traffic?
Offline
One more vote for "you need to make a lens out of that info!"
I am surprised and pleased at the number of lensmasters who return visit and comment for visit and comment. What a nice way to get to know folks around here -- reading their lenses. I could sit here and read all your lenses all day, but --- gotta get back to work!

I'm impressed with all the your helpful ideas. I've learned so much from these forums.
It's sort of like a treasure hunt nuggets of information that will take you to the next level. I learn a lot from Squidoo blogs created by fellow squids.
I believe you need to find a niche market within a broad topic.

When I started at Squidoo, I found the forum quickly, although it took me a lot longer to place my first post, I spent days here, reading everything.

A lot of good tips and I too think you definitely have enough for a lens. I found SquidU soon after joining the site but I know that it is a facility I under employ and I am slowly trying to rectify that.

Thanks for all the suggestions, and I put them into action and made a lens

Great Post. I wonder if maybe my lens is too lengthy. Just trying to give good breakdown of the product. Any feedback would be appreciated.

A lot of truth in what you said. I have yet to achieve the type of quantum leap you talked about but am seeing improvement using some of these steps you mentioned.

Good advice. Woot! I am thrilled to have my first lense in the 5,000 range!!!

Funny thing is, I think most people KNOW that this is what they're supposed to do but taking action is always something completely different. That's why setting goals and taking inspired action is even more important than anything else.

Thanks. This is short and easy to memorize!
You all probably remember how confused you were in start with so many informations on this and that! I know I still am a little bit! :-))
Also, with all accounts I opened last couple weeks since joining Squidoo, I really need to open a notebook and write down all usernames and passwords since I really have problem remembering them! ;-))
