Please welcome your community-elected SquidU Leadership Council!
SQUIDU FORUM RULES
1. New to the Lensmaster Lounge? Introduce yourself. Share a little bit about who you are, and talk about what kinds of lenses you're creating over on Squidoo.
2. Your SquidU username is the same as your Squidoo username. Anything you say or do here reflects on your reputation, well, everywhere.
3. No flaming, harassing, or maligning other users here. No spam either.
4. Feel free to post a comment in any discussion. Think twice and take a deep breath before posting something if you're angry.
5. Before starting a new discussion, please check recent discussions to make sure you're not posting on a redundant topic.
6. This is not an officially-run Squidoo forum. This isn't the place to post bug reports or solicit admin action from Squidoo officials. This is a place for lensmasters, run by volunteer lensmasters, organized to help you meet other lensmasters and get and share help about making Squidoo lenses.
Bonus: This is a community, just like the neighborhood you belong to offline. Day in and day out you'll likely run in to the same faces, the same people, and many diverse opinions. It's up to you to help make it a place you enjoy coming back to, by participating in discussions you enjoy and interacting with the people you respect.
First off, please forgive me if this question/observation has already been posted....but I can't find it anywhere (must be RIGHT in front me...lol).
I've been checking some stats and rankings on Google today, and I keep seeing something in the SERPs of Google that is bothering me.
An Octosquid.
Many lenses are being returned with urls that have octosquid as the subdomain to squidoo (ie, octosquid.squidoo.com/random-lens
Problem is, when you click on these returns in Google, they are password protected!
Take a peek:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en& … afe=images
Kinda hard to get organic traffic TO Squidoo, when Squidoo is locking them out... haha!
Whats up with the octosquid? Anyone know?
Thanks!!!!!

I think Gil mentioned something about it being a beta site and not affecting us yet... =/

Decasquid?

Octosquid is a testing site. When we switched servers the site was temporarily without password protection and Google happened to find it. The site is now password protected again, and Google should remove those search results from their listings pretty quickly.

Good to know we're not getting invaded.... or going to some sort of exclusive private membership site... lol!
Thanks, Gil!

Hi PotPieGirl -- on a tangent -- an octosquid is a combo octopus and squid. ;-)

Squid do not have 10 tentacles. They have 8 arms and two tentacles. Apparently this poor squid has lost his tentacles.

Maybe we should get him a date with Henry the Hexapus.
