*The Forum Rules.
Yep, rules. Read 'em. Abide by 'em. Or your sea creature powers may be revoked. Temporarily, or for good.
1. New to the lounge? Get started here. Learn which category to post your note in, and create a forum signature.
2. Spam: just don't do it. Thou also shalt not fill the forums with multiple threads on the same topic or sockpuppet.
3. Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at ANYONE. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
4. Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. However, this isn't the place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
5. The SquidU forum is a place for users to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses. Try searching for an answer or visiting The Answer Deck.
Big fat disclaimer: this is just a half-day worth of data, and I should probably wait until we've got a solid day or two of testing under our belts. So, consider it more anecdotal than time-tested, but...
1. The new lensmaster bio bar is getting a lot more clicks than before. A lot. Which means more people are clicking to see your other pages and your profile. That's a good thing. So when you have time, try updating your profiles to add a welcome note or a little intro to your body of work, and feel free to post links to, say, your favorite top 10 lenses right in there.
2. I don't yet know if it's the Discovery Tool, or the fact that the Related Topics section is more prominent in the sidebar, or that the "Lensmaster Recommends" section is working, but lens page views are way up. That's also a good thing. When they go up, in aggregate for the entire site, that means more lenses are getting seen, and there's a better chance that yours is too.
Just wanted to share. Mainly to point out that we're watching the data from the new max layout closely, and that some of the changes are having positive effects. We'll keep you posted over the next few days with our findings.
I know there are some raw emotions over some of the design elements, so thanks for being patient while we collect some data and feedback and see what works.
Thanks again!

Maybe it's biased by the fact there are a bunch of us who are maxing all our lenses
because we love the new layout, thus more traffic will get in.
Take this into consideration ![]()

Hah. Thanks, we are.
The numbers are too big to just be the core movers&shakers on SquidU clicking around. Then again, that does really add up! We'll see what more data has to say about it tomorrow.

Megan,
I can't seem to post links in my bio/profile section. Am I missing something here or doing it wrong? I had a link there before, but it is gone now.

by the way, I'm already ranking in google from 'related lenses' links.....

Having read this, I went to review the profiles in some of my more popular lenses.
In the first one I tried, I noticed that my profile wasn't reading correctly (although it always has before)
I started to correct the code
I found the very narrow window that we now for profiles to be impossible to work within so had to exit and use Notepad.
I wrote my code, checked it and input and published. It came out with bits missing. I checked the profile code and tried to alter. N expletives deleted later after many reiterations I decided that no matter what I did to the code the profile was going to be mangled when published.
So that's where it now stands - my most popular lens has a completely mangled profile.
I've submitted a bug report.
Might it be the case that the transfer has caused problems with translating the profiles?
Does the profile have a character or external site reference limit of which I am unaware?
Should all lensmasters should check their profiles - which, after all, once written is not a bit of a lens which you are going to review much.

Speaking of which, I don't like the related lenses section first thing front and center in the middle of my lens. Is there some way we can choose to move it to a different section on our lens? Why was that done? What was the thinking behind it? I don't mind concept in general, but at least let visitors get a chance to see what is on our lens before encouraging them to go off somewhere else. Some people spend a lot of effort to get people to their lenses so please keep this in mind when adding these kind of features.
I would be very interested to know what the testing results have been with adding this section right in the beginning of the lens, because I am open to being way off base here.

LC: You are not alone. 70% of lensmasters polled don't like the placement of this new feature either.
Unfortunately, you can't move it, but you can turn it off so it no longer displays on your lenses.

I'm getting used to the new layout, not so bad, and I like the new Introduction options.
I noticed one lens today that had a lot of Glam Ads on the right, yet most don't seem to have them. Mine are just white. Yet all of mine are maxed. I even turned Max off and then back on again in one, but no effect. maybe it depends on the tags or content of the lens? No matching ads maybe...

I'm really happy to know that the bios are getting more attention. Personally, I think it's a great way to promote yourself/your "brand" and just another opportunity to sell yourself (establish credibility) and your lens in order to encourage people to read on through. If people like my lens, they're going to remember that the bio was up at the top and come back there and click to see what else I have. At least that's the way my mind works when I look at a lens (or any web page). I'm much more likely to read straight on through than to notice anything in the right margin or upper right, at least on the first go-round.
I seem to be in the minority, but I like it!

I'm beginning to like the new bio layout, too, Susan. I'm pretty sure it's partly because it's now blue instead of orange.

Not to rain on a parade here, but my traffic has dropped like a stone, and I think it has to do with the discovery bar. I also don't like the bio big front and center for the reason that people come to the page for the content, not for my name.
Can't we pick, for ourselves, the discovery pages? I really don't like the selection that is turning up. I miss my lensrolling- on some pages a great and long lensroll is just fine.
I don't understand why we can't select these things like modules, and what we want in them, ourselves. Why can't I choose from lensroll styles and how many are shown? Why can't I choose which groups to show and which not to show? Why can't I choose to show the top ten topic lists or not? Why do I HAVE to have the bio where it is now?
I had particular reasons to do choose things and now those reasons are all irrelevant, unless another layout change brings them back in the future.

Do you have any kind of ad blocking software installed?

As an X-software engineer I would like to add some comments to this post. I only to well understand the PROCESS of software engineering. I understand that this process is very much in a state of flux and fluid in nature, and changing on a second by second basis for a multitude of reasons to complex to go into here in this post.
Having said that, I want to encourage all of our great lensmasters out here to have some patience, and ride out the storm as if it is exactly that, a temporary upheaval in the norm!
I think that this very positive post by Megan elicudates this fact.
In the world in which we live, everyone has gotten used to the LIGHT SWITCH reaction to stimuli in our own personal environments.
Simply put, if we like it? It flies, and if we don't it dies, and that happens in the flash of a click!
I would ask you to have some patience with us, sit back to some degree, watch what happens, report accurately your perceptions, and RIDE THE WAVE!
Squidoo is not small any more and the things we used to beable to do in a flash, now take some time.
We are becoming a BIG SHIP in the ocean and can no longer turn on a dime. We do know where we need to go, and we know how to get there, BUT it takes a lot of hard work and some patience on the behalf of our great beloved lensmasters.
I am asking you "to increase your patience meter to about 30 days before you make drastic changes in the way you operate.
I am asking you "our time tested, and beloved lensmasters" to be more vigilant in reporting EXACTLY what you see, and are experiencing out here with your lenses.
I say to you that if you can RIDE THE WAVE with us that you will not be disappointed!
We will give you all that you want, and even more!
The key to this is that it does take a little time to put in place the adjustments needed to bring about the desired effect!
I ask that you support us in a self sacraficing way, in that you simply put, be patient.
The rewards to you as a result will be great.
Blessings!
