The Many Interests of JimH

This week Squidoo interviews JimH, master of hybrid cars, real estate, and Broadway tickets.
Squidoo: What compelled you to try Squidoo?
JimH: I saw a post on an internet marketing forum about Squidoo as a good way to reach new people and possibly attract more traffic to a website. When I looked at the Squidoo interface it seemed very easy to publish ideas and images so it was appealing because my technical abilities are not profound.
Squidoo: Your lenses cover many different topics yet are all very complete and thorough. How do you decide what to create lenses on?
JimH: I originally created lenses on topics that I already had websites on the same or a closely related topic. As I created lenses though I thought of brand new ideas and sometimes was inspired by other lenses I saw on Squidoo. I think ideally you should create lenses on topics that you have a great interest about ... otherwise it could be tedious researching and writing on a topic with little appeal to you personally.
Squidoo: Of the lenses you have, which of these are "spin offs" of previously existing websites? How has your traffic or income been positively affected on theses sites with the addition of Squidoo lenses?
JimH: About one half of my lenses are spin-offs on existing websites. Ironically the lenses I spend the most time on now are really free standing Squidoo only topics. I did see some traffic from the spin off lenses but I'm hoping eventually the Squidoo lenses will become profitable entities worthy of the time spent on them.
Squidoo: What's your single favorite thing about Squidoo?
JimH: I like the community spirit and helpful nature of many of the successful lensmasters.
Squidoo: What one piece of advice would you give to prospective lensmasters?
JimH: I would advise not to start too many lenses at once ... do a good job and finish one lens prior to starting another. Don't spread yourself too thin or all your lenses will suffer.
