Secrets to Lens Titles that Get Results

This week we're learning the secrets of lens titling techniques that these savvy ladies use to generate mega-interest for their niche lenses.

Squidoo: Tell us about how much success you attribute to the titling of your lenses?

Janet of Pimp Your Ride with These Cool Car Accessories says: If you were to ask any marketing executive what the MOST important aspect of an ad copy is, they would unanimously say a catchy title. Therefore, if someone is browsing Squidoo or searching Google, their eye will more likely be drawn to a title that is different, quirky or unusual and lends some mystery as to what is contained inside. A title that encourages browsers to find out more will likely bring more traffic to a lens. I believe titles to some degree have helped bring more traffic to my lenses.

Jacqueline of A Plus Size Wedding Dress - Finding the Perfect One says: I think that when I title my lenses I try to have my main search term at the beginning of the title to help in search engine traffic. Then I add a hyphen and describe further what my lens is about while hopefully inspiring curiosity. It's very much like selecting a title for an article.

Kate of Funky, Chic and Cool Laptop Bags fame says: The title of my Laptop Bag lens has definitely contributed to its success. Why? Because it gets at the heart of what people (mainly women) are searching for. It's that important combination of the practical item they need ( "laptop bag") as well as the emotional result they want from their purchase ("funky" or "chic" ) -- an essential mix for any shopping lens.

I also think that it creates an expectation about what people can find on my lens, both in terms of content as well as writing style. So the folks that visit my lens are more likely to spend time there and enjoy the content. If you're looking for "plain" laptop bags or laptop security - you shouldn't visit my lens. A good title can give you those cues.

Also, it's turned into a bit of a brand for me. I also have "Funky, Chic and Cool iPod cases" as well as a couple of others in the works. This has established a level of trust among my readers - so they know that if they've gotten good reviews on one, they'll get them on the other. Of course, this means I'm also susceptible to being copied (a Squidoo lens search on "funky" turns up a lot more results than it did 6 months ago), but I figure some good healthy competition keeps me on my toes!
