Titling Modules
Keeping the default module names -- like New RSS Module -- isn't very helpful, useful or fun... for you or your readers. So give your module titles some thought! Here are several ways to reapproach how you title modules.
Newspaper Headlines
In the newspaper, headlines tell you what a story is going to be about -- and some even tell you the whole story. Module titles can do much the same thing. Where is the content in the module coming from -- what's the source? What kind of content is it -- products, links or news items? How can people use the information -- is it stuff to buy, articles to read or reference resources to explore?
Book Chapters
How you approach module development and titling can also help you organize your lens. Think of a module like a chapter in a book. Each module can do something different for a reader -- and your titles can walk the reader through the arc of your thinking and experience. That's not to say you should title modules Module 1, Module 2, etc. -- but that your titles can tell people what to expect in the module: its overarching theme or purpose.
Steps in a Process
Lenses can also help readers learn a skill -- or how to do something. And modules can approach such a learning curve in terms of different steps to take, things to consider or lessons in a class. Consider using your module titles as checklist items or flowchart-like tips and advice. Quick example: In a lens about Poughkeepsie, New York, you could have modules addressing how to get there, where to stay, where to eat, what to do -- and historic background about the city. The titles practically write themselves!
